It’s National Apprenticeship Week, and the theme of the week for 2024 is ‘Skills for Life’.

The week brings together everyone passionate about apprenticeships to celebrate the value, benefit and opportunity that they bring.

Today’s theme is ‘T-Level Thursday’.

T-levels are new, government-backed, career focused qualifications – an alternative to A levels, apprenticeships and other 16 to 19 courses. Students spend 80% of their time at College and 20% of their time developing the skills needed for the workplace, on a 45-day industry placement.

Find out more about industry placements here.

Myerscough College's Preston Centre will be offering T-Levels in the subjects listed here from September 2024, plus a dedicated one-year T-Level Transition Programme.

Livestock Production (Agriculture), Crop and Plant Production, Land-based Engineering, Animal Studies, Floristry and Floral Design, Horticulture and Landscaping, Trees and Woodland Management, & Light and Electric Vehicle Maintenance.

The T-Level courses will run alongside the established Level 3 Diploma programmes in each of the subjects indicated. Students should initially apply for the current Level 3 Diploma options (via the website online application process) and then the Admissions Team and departments will contact you to discuss which route best meets your career aspirations.

The entry requirements for all T Levels (except Light Vehicle Maintenance) will be a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 5 (including Maths, English and Science), with a Grade 6 in Maths required for the Vehicle Maintenance and Engineering route.

What is the T Level Transition Programme?

Think you might like to do a T Level, but need more time to get ready? The T Level Transition Programme, starting this September, will help you develop your skills and prepare you for the next level. It’s a one-year post-GCSE course designed to get you T Level ready.

It will give you relevant knowledge, practical and study skills, work experience and support tailored to you and your chosen T Level subject area.

You can expect to:

Gain technical knowledge and practical skills relevant to your chosen T Level subject area

Get ready for your T Level with industry work experience and preparation

Develop industry-relevant English and maths skills, and digital skills

Benefit from focused individual support and personal development

Plan the right next step for you – and get the skills to succeed when you get there

What’s different about the T Level Transition Programme?

The T Level Transition Programme is purposely designed to give you the best chance of progressing onto your chosen T Level – and successfully completing it. It’s been developed with leading employers, who have provided their unique understanding of the knowledge, skills and behaviours that you will need.

The T Level Transition Programme will help you develop knowledge, skills and behaviours across five key areas to prepare you for your chosen T Level subject area.
