16-year-old Josh Bell is studying a Level 1/2 BTEC Certificate in Sports Studies (Golf) at Myerscough College, and in addition to his studies, has become something of an internet sensation, thanks to his appearances in YouTube videos on online channel, Golf Vlogs UK.

Golf Vlogs UK is the home of #golfmates, with a community with tens of thousands of subscribers around the world across social media, as well as on a dedicated YouTube channel. Josh will go on the trip of a lifetime next March thanks to one online member, who saw Josh in action in videos posted by the group, and paid for his trip, which includes flights, accommodation and green fees.

The person in question has asked to remain anonymous.

Liam Harrison is the man behind #golfmates community, and revealed the surprise to Josh during a video, which you can see below (reveal from 5 mins 40 secs):

(Disclaimer - one of the golfers on the video has a slightly rude nickname, you have been warned!)

Liam said: “It all started when Josh’s dad Craig got in touch and asked if we could do a shout out for young Josh on the YouTube channel. I told him we could do one better and that we would go and surprise him.

“So we did, and from there we have fallen in love with Josh. He has to be the most respectful person I have ever met, and he just makes so many people happy.”

Josh’s mum Sonya Leeming said: “In the last three years Josh has discovered he has a real talent and passion for golf. This month he began studying at Myerscough College. He’s loving it and has really settled in well.

“As part of #golfmates, Josh has featured in many YouTube videos playing golf with the lads who create the videos and organise events. Through this he has become a bit of a superstar in the community.

“I am so proud, and obviously extremely grateful to the person who has made this possible for him. The golfmates are genuine, down to earth, decent blokes. It’s nice to know there are such kind people around.”

Josh said: “I think it’s a dream. I just can’t wait to step foot on the plane!

‘’I've always wanted to go to America. (The sponsor) has made me incredibly happy.

‘’My course has been really good so far and I'm enjoying it.’’
