The Fair Employment Charter scheme – led by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority – recognises good employers who introduce progressive employment practices, such as paying the Real Living Wage; providing opportunities for staff to develop and progress; avoid insecure work and zero-hour contracts and negotiate with trade unions.

Myerscough has been successful in being awarded the Aspiring Level of the Charter.

Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, said: ‘’Our Fair Employment Charter is all about making our region be the fairest, most equitable place in the country to work or run a business in.

‘’It is about shining a light on and promoting good employers who do the right things: paying the Real Living Wage, clamping down on the insecure work or zero hours contracts, offering a real seat at the table to trade unions and giving staff opportunities to progress and thrive.

‘’This charter has been a long time in the making. We have worked closely with trade unions, employers of all sizes and staff themselves to ensure that it reflects the needs, wants and priorities of staff and bosses alike.’’

Signing the charter commits Myerscough to recognise trade unions, use local labour and supply chains, and giving staff opportunities to progress and thrive – especially those from underrepresented groups.

The charter encourages businesses to pay staff a Real Living Wage, provide mental health support, and encourage flexible working.

Signing the charter reaffirms Myerscough’s ongoing commitment to inclusivity and diversity, being a fair employer and creating a great place to work for all.

Myerscough is already a Disability Confident employer, has in recent years been recognised as one of the Top 50 Most Inclusive Workplaces with the National Centre for Diversity, and holds Mindful Employer status.

The accreditation process for the Mayor’s Fair Employment Charter has been designed so that employers can progress through levels – Aspiring, Accredited and Ambassador –  enabling them to show that they are working towards being a fair employer; becoming a fair employer, being a fair employer, and then having exemplary practice in fair employment.
