Douwe Korting from the Netherlands spent two days at Myerscough’s Preston centre, engaging with staff and students.

Douwe Korting is a Dutch expert in sustainable food and farming systems and a co-founder of the pioneering community-driven farm initiative, Herenboeren, or ‘People's Farming.’
This week, Douwe spent time visiting the College farms and meeting the agriculture teaching team, before delivering two guest lectures to Myerscough’s Level 3 and T Level students, focusing on general farming in the Netherlands and Herenboeren.
Herenboeren is a cooperative farming system where 200 households pay a weekly subscription and in return, receive a food hamper containing seasonal fruit, vegetables and meat. The community also plays an active role in running the farm, helping to grow vegetables and care for the animals. Families can get involved by taking part in activities such as apple picking or harvesting potatoes.
Today, there are 23 Herenboeren farms feeding around 10,000 people in the Netherlands.

We thank Douwe for taking the time to visit Myerscough and wish him the very best for the future.
While in the UK, Douwe also presented at the prestigious Oxford Farming Conference.
