Myerscough's football students enjoy Portugal experience
Published: Monday 16 March 2026Myerscough College football students have enjoyed an unforgettable enrichment experience in Portugal.
A large group of staff and students were given the opportunity to spend almost a week based in the country, as part of an educational trip and training camp packed with activities.
This included playing in competitive games for both male and female students, as well as taking part in training, team building exercises and sight-seeing.
After arriving in Lisbon, the Myerscough group began their trip with a visit to the Benfica Campus to watch Benfica B play in the Liga Portugal 2, for a fantastic way to start the tour.

The following day was action packed, with the students starting the day off with a training session lead by the Benfica coaches followed by a tour of the training facility. The opportunity for students to train in a historic environment was an incredible experience, and the players pushed themselves to make the most of it.

After some down time the Myerscough second team were involved in a closely contested fixture against OS Belenenses, cheered on by the their fellow students, whilst the women’s players joined up with Amora Futbol Clube for a training session.

Day three started with a visit to Foot Lab, where the session included a range of speed and technical football drills along with small sided games in the state of the art facilty.
The students then enjoyed some rest time in the local seaside town of Sesimbra, before the fixture of the evening against Desportivo de Sesimbra.
The game was closely contested with the hosts just edging it. It was another great day had by all.

The final day of the trip started with a visit to the centre of Lisbon to explore a little bit more of what the city has to offer, before a visit to the home of Benfica, where the students were able to take in some history of how the club has become one of the most respected on the continent.
The students were also given a tour of the stadium along with access to the changing rooms where many familiar players have gone before them.
The day concluded with the final fixture of the trip where Myerscough’s first team ran out 8-0 winners against Bless Academy, to round off a truly memorable trip for the students.

Dave McCann, Senior Lecturer in Sport at Myerscough College & University Centre, said: ‘’The overall purpose of the trip was to provide our students with an excellent opportunity to experience a variety of sporting activities, sightseeing and cultural visits whilst creating lifetime experiences that they’ll never forget, in addition to playing competitive fixtures against local sides.’’
