Foundation Learning lecturer Rachel Dollin recently attended the UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador Programme, at the Houses of Parliament in London, to learn about democracy in the UK and how the Parliamentary system operates.

The aim of the conference is to gain an understanding and recognise how to teach UK Parliament to students, and then teach and support others with their delivery of citizenship within the curriculum.

By becoming an accredited partner of the UK Parliament Education and Engagement Team, Rachel can deliver workshops and sessions for students especially within Foundation Learning to promote their understanding of citizenship, politics, voting and democracy.

A packed programme included a tour of the Speaker’s Apartments, and a question and answer session with Rt Hon Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Chorley MP and The Speaker of the House of Commons. There was also a parliamentary tour including to both the House of Commons and Lords, Afternoon Tea with Cat Smith, the Lancaster and Wyre MP, a Q&A with Baroness Smith, the youngest Baroness in House of Lords, and finding more about the work of various Select Committees and the role of the Door Keeper.
