The presentation reinforces the College’s commitment to delivering practical, research-led solutions and advancing higher education in golf and sports turf management.

The interactive workshop, titled “From Market to Maintenance: Golf Course Condition and Playability Guidance for Managers and Committees,” was delivered by Dr John Fry, Research Lead at Myerscough, and drew on research undertaken by Dr Fry and Dr Stewart Brown.

This workshop offered a roadmap to help golf clubs address environmental pressures, resource constraints, and regulatory challenges while maintaining course quality and playability.

Discussions brought together current academic and technical research alongside expert industry views on how to manage golf course condition sustainably.

Delegates were provided with practical guidance, action points, and case studies of best practice, as well as a Golf Club Template – a hands-on tool enabling clubs to identify their own priority areas and define what course quality means in their unique context.

Dr John Fry said: “It was a great pleasure to facilitate this session with greenkeepers, managers, and other key decision-makers in the golfing arena.

‘’Sharing this knowledge is crucial to increase the adoption of sustainable agronomic practices and highlight the opportunities golf has to provide playable surfaces in an environmentally responsible way.”

Andy Gadsdon, Strategic Lead for Higher Education at Myerscough, added: “Practical, research-led learning is at the heart of our Higher Education programmes. Our students don’t just study environmental challenges – they actively help shape solutions that influence the future of the golf industry.

‘’This hands-on approach ensures graduates leave with the expertise and confidence to thrive in their careers.”

BTME is Europe’s leading turf management event, attracting thousands of golf industry professionals from across the globe, and provides an essential platform for education, innovation, and collaboration.
