Pesticide Application
The safe and effective use of pesticides is essential across a wide range of industries, including agriculture, horticulture, grounds maintenance, and amenity land management. Correct training not only protects operators and the environment but also ensures compliance with strict legal requirements.
In the UK, anyone using professional pesticide products must either hold a recognised certificate of competence or be working under the direct supervision of someone who does. The DEFRA Code of Practice states that all professional users must be appropriately trained, and in many cases, the law requires individuals to hold a valid certificate, which may need to be refreshed every 3–5 years depending on the qualification and role. The specific certification required will vary based on the type of equipment used and the application method.
Our pesticide short courses provide the knowledge and practical skills needed to meet these requirements and operate safely and responsibly. Myerscough offers a range of industry-recognised qualifications, including:
- PA1 – Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides (foundation unit)
- PA6A – Handheld Applicators
- PA2 – Boom Sprayer (tractor-mounted equipment)
These courses combine essential theory with practical assessment, covering areas such as legislation, product selection, environmental protection, safe handling, equipment operation, and application techniques.
Training is delivered by experienced tutors with extensive industry knowledge, ensuring learners gain up-to-date guidance aligned with current best practice. Courses are suitable for individuals entering the industry, existing operators needing certification, or employers looking to ensure staff meet legal requirements.
In addition to our scheduled courses, we work closely with businesses to identify the most appropriate training and qualifications for their specific operations. Bespoke pesticide training can also be arranged for more specialised equipment or application methods, delivered either on site or at our college facilities. Please contact shortcourses@myerscough.ac.uk to discuss your bespoke training needs.
Whether you are seeking certification, refreshing your skills, or ensuring compliance, our pesticide short courses provide a flexible and professional route to safe and effective pesticide use.
