About the course

This course will run one day a week at Croxteth Park, Liverpool and Walton Hall, Warrington. This course runs for a full year during college term time. It is designed for adults aged 19+ who wish to improve their animal care skills and knowledge with the possible view to working in the animal care industry. Learners can combine this with other adult courses or study alongside employment or other responsibilities. This course is fully funded for some adults but there may be a fee to pay for other individuals. Please refer to the fees list and adult funsidng guidance on the 'Adults' area of our website. The Level 2 Practical Animal Care Skills will provide a detailed introduction to animal care and husbandry combining practical based training with sound theoretical knowledge. The modules, which are listed below, will be delivered using a wide variety of methods including lectures, practical work, demonstrations and self-study. The course provides the flexibility, knowledge, skills and motivation as a basis for future studies and career development within the animal care industry.

Entry requirements & additional information

This course covers practical skills and relevant background knowledge. This cohort is designed for adult learners who will be 19 on or before the 31st August of their start year. 2 GCSEs at Grade D (3) or equivalent, one must be English Language. We will consider industry experience, industry qualifications or other individual curcumstances when reviewing applications from adult applicants. It is recommended that applicants to gain some voluntary experience within the animal sector in order ensure that they are fully prepared for the expectations of the study programme and gain a realistic insight of the animal industry. A minimum of five days (which do not have to be consecutive) is advised. This course is fully funded for some adults but there may be a fee to pay for other individuals. A variety of assessment methods will be used these will include portfolio building, assignments and practical assessments.
Level One students can progress to a range of full time Level Two programmes that can be found in the school leavers section of the website. Progression is subject to satisfactory attendance and performance at Level One. We also have a range of short courses available in the Adults section of the website. .
