Level 3 Veterinary Nurse (Apprenticeship)

About the course

Please note that this is an Apprenticeship Programme and applicants must be employed (or about to commence employment) within a veterinary practice. There are no full-time course options in Veterinary Nursing for students looking to start at college directly having finished Year 11 at school. Students normally either follow the apprenticeship route (described below), having secured a job in the workplace or consider a Level 3 vocational option (often in Animal Studies or Equine Studies here at Myerscough) or an A Level route at Sixth Form and then progress to the university-level Foundation Degree in Veterinary Nursing (more details on our www.ucmyerscough.ac.uk website.) Once you have applied we will be in contact to confirm your start date and also whether you require block release or day release provision. Veterinary nursing is the supportive care of animals receiving treatment within a veterinary practice. A veterinary nurse works as a member of the veterinary team, providing expert nursing care for sick animals. Veterinary nurses also play a significant role in educating owners on maintaining the health of their pets. They carry out technical work and are skilled in undertaking a range of diagnostic tests, medical treatments and minor surgical procedures, under veterinary direction. Veterinary Nurses are registered professionals and work within the standards and scope of practice defined by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). Statutory requirement - 5 GCSEs to include Maths, English and Science of grade C and above or equivalent. All apprentices are required to have suitable employment in order to complete the programme. A contract of employment must be in place and apprentices must be paid in line with minimum wage rules.
