Entry Level 1 ASDAN Certificate Personal Progress

About the course

ASDAN provides a starting point for some students, all courses run differentiated levels within the course as a whole e.g. Certificate and Diploma, so students can progress at a rate that suits their needs. The focus of ASDAN is to promote independence and personal skills with the overall outcome for students to be able to participate within their local community and have some independence within their lives by being able to make decisions and communicate choices. The units within the different levels of ASDAN all coincide to allow clear progression of skills for example EL1 has a heavier leaning on communication skills and basic independence. The way in which the curriculum is organised is in the form of a spiral curriculum whereby knowledge is revisited and extended upon, so new learning closely links with prior learning. Skills that transcend all levels of ASDAN include, punctuality, attendance, making a positive contribution, appropriate behaviours and shared learning. Transition between ASDAN courses and other courses is good. Options are explored on an individual basis to allow students to work to their strengths, both physically and educationally. Students are taught maths and English either within their tutor group or if applicable they can be taught by General Education tutors and work towards achieving an Entry Level C&G unit qualification. Maths and English lessons follow the Functional Skills outcomes at each level.
