About the course
The Level 2 Construction Equipment Maintenance Mechanic programme is designed for apprentices looking to build a successful career maintaining, servicing and repairing the machines that keep the construction, quarrying and plant industries moving. Delivered over two years through five intensive two-week training blocks each academic year, this programme provides the perfect balance of workplace learning and specialist college-based training. Apprentices gain valuable industry experience while developing the technical knowledge and practical skills employer's demand.
Throughout the programme, apprentices develop a strong foundation in engineering and equipment maintenance, covering essential topics such as health and safety, mechanical principles, hydraulics, electrical systems, welding and fabrication, routine servicing and machine inspection.
A combination of practical workshop activities and classroom-based learning ensures apprentices understand not only how equipment works, but why it works.
Upon completion, Apprentices will be qualified as Construction Equipment Maintenance Mechanics and can progress onto the Level 3 Construction Equipment Maintenance Technician programme, opening the door to more advanced engineering and diagnostic responsibilities within the industry.
The Level 3 Construction Equipment Maintenance Technician programme is designed for ambitious apprentice engineers who want to take their technical skills to the next level. Delivered over one year through five intensive two-week training blocks, this advanced qualification builds on the knowledge and experience gained at Level 2, preparing apprentices for higher-level maintenance, diagnostic and technical roles within the construction equipment and plant engineering sectors.
Apprentices develop a deeper understanding of machine systems and advanced engineering practices, focusing on diagnostic techniques, fault finding, performance testing and evaluating the viability of repairs.
Apprentices leave the programme with the confidence to diagnose complex problems, make informed engineering decisions and contribute to the efficiency and reliability of high-value machinery. The Level 3 qualification is highly respected across the industry and provides a strong platform for career progression into senior technician, specialist diagnostic, supervisory and field service engineering roles.
