Myerscough’s High Performance Centre has been selected as one of the four host sites for the competition, which will take place over the next three weekends. The tournament is acting as a trial event for how basketball at all levels will operate as part of a ‘new normal’ for the 2020-21 season.

It will be the first time Myerscough will play in a competitive fixture since March.

Myerscough, which is one of the two Academies invited to take part in the NBL Division One competition, will welcome Derby, Newcastle and Bradford to the College’s main Bilsborrow campus. The games will all be live streamed with further details to be confirmed, with teams playing each other once, and the two top teams in each group progressing to the quarterfinals.

Myerscough head coach, Neal Hopkins, said: “Firstly, basketball is back. It is fantastic to be involved in the trophy as this is a brilliant opportunity for the players and the programme.

“We had a great [National] Cup run last year and showed that we could mix it up with the Division One teams. I am sure the guys are hungry to carry this over into the trophy competition.

“Getting basketball back on track is hugely important and to be able to do this safely while doing the occasion justice is something I am really passionate about. I have no doubt we will be able to host three great weekends.”

Basketball England Senior Delivery Manager Gail Richards, said: ‘’We are coming through a difficult time for the sport and we are confident the event will help us understand some of the challenges heading into the new season while giving teams the opportunity for some competitive action.’’
