‘Industry standard’ new reptile room unveiled at Myerscough’s Animal Studies Centre
Published: Friday 13 June 2025A reptile room designed to emulate zoo industry standards has been opened at the Animal Studies Centre at Myerscough’s Bilsborrow campus.

The state-of-the-art room has been built within an immersive themed space that will allow the department to house more challenging species for higher level learners.
Take a tour of the new facility here:
The team at ZooFab undertook the project, which features six large walk-exhibits to house a variety of larger species, including a Green Iguana, Monitor Lizard, Boa, and Dwarf Caiman, and some smaller ones, such as dart frogs in the central hexagonal exhibit and ropes to be used by leaf cutter ants.
Each enclosure is fully themed with artificial rock work inside and out, rustic timber cladding and lots of planting - both live and artificial.
Heating and lighting is also installed - T5 UV and LED Lighting, Halogen spot lights and deep heat projectors from Arcadia Reptile, as well as infrared sunspot heaters and filtration systems from OASE with inline pool heaters.
In addition, double door systems with clear glass give the students the zoo keeper experience of safety protocol, but also allows teaching staff to monitor the students with ease.
Zoological Fabrications LTD (ZooFab) are experts in creating stunning animal housing solutions, pragmatic exhibits and enclosures for a variety of species.
