This programme is delivered through the ‘Experienced Worker Route’, making it ideal for those already working in a senior role such as Head Greenkeeper or Golf Course Manager. It recognises the skills and knowledge already gained through industry experience and builds on them with structured learning and development.
The apprenticeship is delivered over approximately 17 months, including the final End Point Assessment. This condensed format allows learners to gain a nationally recognised qualification without stepping away from their current role. It’s a flexible, employer-based programme that fits around your working life while helping you grow professionally.
Golf Course Managers are responsible for the strategic, operational, and financial management of golf facilities. Their duties include:
- Planning and overseeing turf maintenance and course presentation
- Managing teams of greenkeepers and support staff
- Controlling budgets and procurement
- Ensuring health and safety compliance
- Delivering a high-quality playing experience for members and visitors
This apprenticeship equips learners with the leadership, technical, and business skills needed to manage golf facilities of all sizes—from local clubs to championship venues.
To be eligible for the Experienced Worker Route, applicants must:
- Hold a Level 3 qualification in Greenkeeping or a related subject
- Have at least two years’ experience in a golf course management role
- Be able to demonstrate responsibilities that align with the apprenticeship standard
Applicants should also have GCSEs in English and Maths (Grade A-C / 9-4) or equivalent Functional Skills Level 2. All candidates will complete an initial assessment and interview to confirm suitability.
The programme is delivered primarily on the employer’s premises, allowing apprentices to apply their learning directly to their current role. Topics covered include advanced agronomy, machinery management, team leadership, and strategic planning. Learners are supported by expert tutors from Myerscough College, who bring industry insight and academic expertise.
