Myerscough College works with the team at Liverpool City Region to fund training for local residents through the Adult Education Budget (AEB) who meet the criteria to be eligible.

The celebration event launched with a welcome address from Jane Booker, chair of the Myerscough Corporation, who welcomed students who have studied both at the College Centre in Croxteth Park and in community venues across Liverpool City Region.

A number of learners present at the event had achieved multiple qualifications, mainly in horticulture programmes but some in maths, developing and broadening their skills as they progressed on their programmes.

Next, Myerscough Chief Executive and Principal, Wes Johnson, addressed the room, congratulating all those who had achieved their awards and explaining more Myerscough’s role in supporting learners across the area.

Wes said: ‘’We are the specialist land-based college for Liverpool City Region residents – providing opportunities that would not be available without the College base here in Croxteth Park.

‘’Maximising the use of the park facilities here is for the benefit of students and park users alike.

‘’Myerscough brings a traditionally rural education offer to students in very urban settings across the City Region.

‘’Although the majority of students present today have studied horticulture, there are some students who have achieved qualifications in maths. There are some particularly hard-working students who have achieved qualifications in both. Improving the maths skills of our local residents has been a priority through the Multiply programme.

‘’We are proud to make a real difference to the lives of local residents.’’

Then, Barbara Murray, Lord Mayor of Liverpool 2025 – 26, who was the Chief Guest for the day, addressed the room prior to the awards being presented.

Barbara has supported the College for many years, and is a local councillor, representing Yew Tree Ward. Barbara has experience as a teacher and as a community development worker.

Barbara has been the driving force behind the Britain in Bloom ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ campaign locally, supporting gardens and community spaces in achieving the prestigious award.

We congratulate everybody on their achievements and wish all the learners all the very best for the future.

Myerscough would also like to acknowledge the fantastic local partners and community groups who help to make the programme such a success.

They are: Blessed Sacrament Catholic Primary School, Bright Park, Cobalt Housing, Everton Community Garden, Faiths 4 Change, Fazakerley Library, Grow Speke, La Salle Hotel School, Liverpool Irish Centre, The Bridge Community Centre, The Secret Garden and Westvale Primary School.
