T Level Animal and Agriculture

Dear Applicant/Carer/Parent

This email is being sent to you because you have applied for, or are the parent/guardian/carer of someone who has applied for, a Level 3 programme with us.

From September 2024 Myerscough College will begin to deliver the new land-based T level courses alongside the existing Level 3 Technical Courses.

For students looking to study technical qualifications when they have completed their GCSEs, T Levels combine classroom learning, practical training and on-the-job industry experience. Delivered over a two-year period, T Levels are designed for 16 to 18-year-olds who would rather study work-related courses than traditional academic subjects. T Level courses have been designed in close cooperation with employers, so they provide you with the specific skills and knowledge you will need to get a job or progress to university or higher-level technical qualifications.

If studying a T Level you will spend 80% of your time in College and 20% on an industry placement, giving you the chance to experience a real workplace setting. The work placement is an integral part of the qualification, you will complete a minimum of 315 hours (approximately 45 days) on an industry placement related to your subject, where your focus will be on developing practical and technical skills which support your classroom learning.  Final grades are based on a combination of exams, coursework, practical assessment and completion of the industry placement.

The Government has gradually rolled out T Levels since 2021 and we are excited to now be offering the following land-based T level pathways from September 2024:

  • Livestock Production T Level Occupational Specialism
  • Animal Management and Behaviour T Level Occupational Specialism

As part of the T Level roll out the government will remove more than 200 qualifications which will no longer be available to study. These new T Level qualifications will eventually replace our current Level 3 offer and will provide you with a modernised, industry relevant, qualification. The T Level programmes allow for a greater number of practical training hours, whilst retaining many of the features and themes of the previous qualifications.

If you applied for a Level 3 course in Animal Studies or Agriculture and you meet the revised entry criteria, you have the option to transfer to the T Level or remain on the course you applied for. Staff will be available to advise and guide you following the receipt of your GCSE results during the enrolment period. In most cases you will get a course confirmation for your original course, but this will then be changed once the selection and confirmation process starts, during the first week of term.

For more information about deciding, please see below the links to the course factsheets. Please do not reapply at this stage.
