Chainsaw
Our chainsaw and climbing courses are designed to support both those already working in the industry and those looking to develop specialist practical skills. These hands-on courses provide essential training in the safe use of chainsaws, tree climbing techniques, aerial rescue, and tree maintenance operations, all in line with current industry standards and best practice.
Due to the physical nature of arboriculture work, a good level of fitness is required. Learners must also use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure safety during training and assessment. We strongly recommend that all students hold a valid first aid certificate before starting their course, as this is a key requirement for safe working in the industry. Full details of PPE requirements can be found in each course factsheet and should be reviewed carefully before enrolment.
In line with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance, anyone using a chainsaw in a professional or volunteer capacity (outside of personal domestic use) is expected to hold relevant, recognised qualifications. Our courses ensure that learners gain the skills, knowledge, and certification needed to meet these standards and work confidently and safely within the sector.
We are able to offer a wider range of chainsaw and climbing qualifications for companies looking to train their employees, both at College and employer sites. Specialist courses include but are not restricted to Windblow, Pole saw, Stump Grinder and Felling Large Trees. For further information please email shortcourses@myerscough.ac.uk.
