About the course
The Level 2 Practical Animal Care Skills (zoos/wildlife establishments) will provide a detailed introduction to animal care and husbandry combining practical based training with sound theoretical knowledge. The modules, which are listed below, will be delivered using a wide variety of methods including lectures, practical work, demonstrations and self-study. The course provides the flexibility, knowledge, skills and motivation as a basis for future studies and career development within the animal care industry. The course is extremely popular with school leavers who wish to combine a practical based training programme with sound theoretical knowledge.

Entry requirements & additional information
This course covers practical skills and relevant background knowledge. Students are normally aged 16 or over and the following qualifications are needed: 2 GCSEs at Grade D (3) or equivalent, one must be English Language. It is strongly recommended for applicants to gain some voluntary experience within the animal sector in order ensure that they are fully prepared for the expectations of the study programme and gain a realistic insight of the animal industry. A minimum of five days (which do not have to be consecutive) is advised.
A variety of assessment methods will be used these will include portfolio building, assignments and practical assessments.
Level 2 students can progress to level 3 programmes subject to published entry requirements and satisfactory performance at level 2.

If you care about animals and have a deep interest in their health and wellbeing, Myerscough provides an excellent opportunity for you to further your studies. You'll develop a range of skills and have the opportunity to care for a range of animals including dogs, cats, rabbits and ferrets, farm animals, reptiles and amphibians and a range of invertebrates.
Our Animal Studies Centre
Myerscough College’s Animal Studies Centre has tripled in size after the completion of a £3 million extension and major refurbishment. The new Animal Studies Centre features specialist classrooms, dedicated indoor and outdoor areas for different animal groups, as well as spacious private rooms, reception and study areas, all fully equipped with the latest I.T technology.
The Animal Studies Centre also offers a range of services to the public, from grooming and healthcare through to behaviour classes and hydrotherapy for injury recovery.
