If you�ve got a passion for cars, racing or all things mechanical, this course is the perfect way to kickstart your career in the automotive and motorsport industries.
The City & Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance (Motorsport) is a hands-on introduction to vehicle maintenance, repair, and workshop practice. You�ll develop the key skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to work safely and effectively in a motorsport or automotive environment.
You�ll explore a wide range of practical and theory-based topics designed to help you build a strong foundation in vehicle maintenance and repair. Units include:

Entry requirements & additional information
To apply, you will need:
3 GCSEs at Grade 1-2, including English or Maths, or an Entry Level 3 qualification
A genuine interest in cars and motorsport (some practical experience is helpful!)
A commitment to continue working towards GCSE English and Maths at College
Minimum age: 16 years old
You�ll be assessed through a mix of:
Online exams (set by City & Guilds)
Practical assessments in the workshop
Portfolio work
Tutor observations
After successfully completing this course, you can:
Progress onto a Level 2 programme in Light Vehicle Maintenance or Motorsport (subject to entry requirements and performance)
Move into an automotive apprenticeship, gaining real-world experience in the industry
To ensure safety and professionalism in the workshop, you will need:
Myerscough Motorsport fire-retardant overalls (these are available for purchase from the College shop before you start the course)
Protective footwear (European standard - S1P rating)
While not essential, students may also choose to purchase books to support their learning. A reading list is available on request.
