City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 Certificate of Competence in Tractor Driving and Related Operations (Horticulture Tractor)

About the course

This 3 day course is generally free for Liverpool City Region Residents. Please see entry requirements for fee structure for applicants. This course covers safe driving of a tractor, pre-use maintenance, safety checks and recognition of controls and instruments. The Course and Assessment will cover the use of the tractor in a range of situations: driving safely and correctly around a suitable course (including reversing with a trailer), trailer hitching, attaching 3-point linkage and Power Take Off (PTO) driven attachments. There is an optional unit that covers the use of a tractor fitted with a front-end loader. Course Units: The course programme will cover the legal, safety and operator requirements for: Safe use of the tractor and machinery Operator maintenance Operating/Driving safely PTO operation Trailed implements and trailers Three point linkages This practical course is delivered to include all the outcomes listed and assessed independently of the training day. Assessment is held on a separate day (Usually/ideally the following week). All Assessment fees are included in Course fee/funding.

Entry requirements & additional information

Generally learners will be 19+ (funding differs significantly for those under 19 or betwen 18 and 24 with an active EHCP) A drivers licence is an advantage but not essential. Course Fees / Funding It is expected that the majority of residents of Liverpool City Region and Greater Manchester will fall under Tier 3 funding and so recieive this couse for free. The fees for this course are allocated on a tiered system. The College will review all applications and apply tier 1 or 2 invoices where appropriate. It is the responsibility of the individual candidate to be aware of the tier they fall into and provide appropriate wage/ employment evidence or pay the necessary top up fee where needed. Tier One- Full Cost (�395) Candidates enrolled onto a full-time government funded course such as further education, apprenticeship, specific industry training course or have been enrolled for more than 42 days in the current academic year on one of these courses. Candidates who have not lived in the UK for three years/ None UK citizen (exception for candidates with refugee status) Candidates who have not reached their 19th birthday on or before 31st July of the academic year their course runs in (for example a candidate that has their 19th birthday on 1st August and then completes a course on 30th July the following year, is ineligible for additional funding and so falls into tier one full cost). Already taken and achieved this programme or one very similar with the same awarding body. Living in an area with a metropolitan mayor (with the exception of Liverpool City Region or Greater Manchester) Tier Two- Co -Funded Rate (�180) Candidates that meet the residency, age and course requirements (as per tier 3 � details below) but earn over the wage thresholds identified for the tier 3 full funding �35 864.40 for Liverpool City Region residents OR residents of Lancashire, Cumbria or other areas not covered by a devolved government. Tier Three- Fully Funded - Liverpool City Region Residents only Earning less than �35 864.40 per year (based on past three months of payslips/P60 or verified accounts) OR unemployed and completing the course to support paid/ volunteer work. Reached 19th birthday on or before 31st July of the academic year their course runs in (for example a candidate that has their 19th birthday on 1st August and then completes a course on 30th July the following year, is ineligible for additional funding and so falls into tier one full cost). UK Citizen / Legal permission to live and work in UK Lived in UK for 3 years Not attending school, college or university, an apprentice or training as part of any full or part time, government funded training programme/ not been enrolled on such a programme during the academic year of the short course. Not in custody as a prisoner or on remand. Has never completed and achieved the same or a very similar qualification with the same exam board.
Assessment is held on day 3 of the course All Assessment fees are included in Course fee/funding. To gain the qualification you must complete a practical test with one-to-one questioning
There are many further City and Guilds Industry Qualifications offered at Myerscough's Liverpool and Preston sites. You may also wish to process to full time or apprenticeship courses in Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering or Horticulture.
