Health & Safety Manager 12 months Fixed Term – Based at Preston
At Myerscough, our values drive us: we are passionate about education, collaborative in our approach, professional in everything we do, and committed to Fredie (Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion & Engagement).

About the role

Reporting to the Director of Health, Safety and Security, this is a pivotal role in delivering a proactive, compliant and service-focused health and safety function across all College sites. You will translate strategy into practice, providing visible leadership, ensuring operational standards are consistently met, and maintaining full compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

You will oversee day-to-day health and safety operations, including audits, inspections, incident investigations, and the development of safe systems of work. A key part of your role will be supporting managers across curriculum and professional services areas to embed strong safety management practices, ensuring risk assessments, COSHH documentation and local arrangements remain current and effective.

You will lead and develop the Health & Safety Officers, fostering a positive safety culture through regular engagement with staff, students and contractors. You will act as deputy to the Director when required, contributing to reports, updates and committee discussions, and providing expert advice across the College.

The role also includes supporting emergency planning, RIDDOR reporting, first aid provision, and the delivery of health and safety training. Sustainability underpins all areas of responsibility, and you will champion continuous improvement by analysing performance data, identifying trends and implementing positive change.

While this is a full-time role at 37 hours per week, we welcome applications from candidates who are unable to commit to full-time hours, with a minimum of 30 hours per week required.
