Myerscough College has been training crew members from the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) this week, in preparation for tackling wildfires.

As the summer approaches, and despite the current coronavirus social lockdown, the risk of moorland fires significantly increases, meaning the crews need to be fully trained in using the latest equipment available, should it be required.

Adult skills tutor, Steve Slater, has been delivering sessions with the crews, as part of their ongoing wildfire training programme for the Manchester Fire and Rescue Centre. The training focuses on brush cutting, a specialist piece of equipment that the fire service use for specifically tackling blazes on the moors. This equipment is new to the fire service, making the training in its use urgent and important.

The photographs show Steve Slater delivering one of the sessions to crew members at Mossley Community Fire Station. The sessions are being carried out maintaining strict social distancing and wearing appropriate PPE.
