About the course

Brief Description of the Course:  This course covers the use of handheld leaf blowers and vacuums, including pre-use checks, maintenance, identification of controls and instruments and operating the machine to blow or collect vast amounts of leaves to the capacity of the machine. Entry Requirements: A keen interest in horticulture, arboriculture and forestry. Course Units: The assessment consists of one compulsory unit that is broken down into the following outcomes: Unit 201 ·         Know how to carry out a risk assessment ·         Know the current health and safety legislation and environmental good practice ·         Know the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for hand held hedge trimmer operations ·         Know how to check and maintain the machine ·         Demonstrate how to operate the leaf blower or vacuum ·         Know how to carry out post operative checks ·         Know how to clean and appropriately store a leaf blower or vacuum Learning and Assessment: This practical course is delivered to include all the outcomes listed and assessed independently of the training day. Assessment is held on a separate day (Usually/ideally the following week). All Assessment fees are included in Course fee/funding. To gain the qualification you must complete a practical test with one-to-one questioning. Course Fees: £172  The cost of this course is usually £258. However, residents of Liverpool City Region are likely to be eligible for funding to pay for all or part of this course. PLEASE NOTE THIS COURSE CANNOT BE FUNDED FOR APPLICANTS ON A FULL TIME FURTHER EDUCATION COURSES OR APPRENTICESHIPS.  Additional Information: Please bring safety footwear and appropriate outdoor clothing.  Progression: There are further NPTC competency courses available at the College.
