About the course
This course covers the use of pedestrian controlled mowers, including pre-use checks, maintenance, identification of controls and instruments and operating the machine taking into account the type of cutting mechanism used. If you are taking the course on a College site then we will use a totary mower. We can train and assessor on cylander mowers for commercial bookings at individual work places. If you have a flail; reciprocating knife or Greem Machine then we may be able to complete the training and issue a Myerscough certificate however we cannot deliver and assess the City and Guilds qulaification.
Course Units:
The assessment consists of two compulsory units which are broken down into the following outcomes:
Unit 213
Know how to carry out a basic risk assessment
Know the health and safety legislation that underpins machine operations
Know the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for mower operations
Know the key features of the equipment being used
Know the controls and instruments relating to the equipment being used
Know how to check and maintain the equipment being used
Know how to adjust the cutting units
Know how to safely operate a mower
Unit 214
Be able to set up, use and maintain pedestrian controlled powered equipment
Be able to work safely and minimise environmental damage
Know how to maintain pedestrian controlled powered equipment
Know the operating principles of powered equipment
Know the current health and safety legislation and environmental practice

Entry requirements & additional information
A keen interest in horticulture, ground-keeping or green-keeping.
Depending on the end dates of the course you book then the training and assessment may take place on the same day however in most cases you will be asked to complete a 2 hour formal assessment the day after the training.
