About the course

Introduction:

This is an introduction, demonstration and the opportunity to get hands on with making products from the hive. You will also receive a brief introduction to bees.

What are the entry requirements?

A keen interest in beekeeping and / or crafts.

How long is the course?

One half day.

What will the course involve?

This short course will provide you with the opportunity to work with beeswax to create a range of products such as lip balm, hand balm, candles etc. You will take products home with you when you leave the session.

There is no expectation for you to have attended a beekeeping course previously or practice beekeeping.

How long will I be learning?

Although this course only lasts for half a day, this is only the start and you’ll carry on learning as you put your new skills into practice.

What equipment will I need?

All equipment is provided.

How will I know if I am making progress?

Demonstration of new skills.

What course work will I be expected to complete?

Practical skills during the course.

Countryside Studies

The management of land for the conservation of flora and fauna, general recreation, environmental education and urban regeneration requires a blend of skills. These include an understanding of ecological principles, a sound knowledge of management and the practical ability to carry out conservation techniques – from river catchment systems to rural and coastal habitats.

Many job opportunities exist within the conservation, gamekeeping and commercial sectors, and as part of your progamme you will have the opportunity to develop countryside craft skills such as hedgelaying and drystone walling, useful for a range of future careers.
