English cricket has enjoyed a massive resurgence in recent years, attracting huge crowds who know they are going to be thrilled by cavalier batting, top-class bowling and athletic fielding.

All forms of the game are gaining popularity and new larger than life stars such as Andrew Flintoff, Kevin Pieterson and Monty Panesar are raising public interest in ways that have not been seen since the days of men like Ian Botham. This was highlighted in the 2005 Ashes series when the English Test Team managed to capture the coveted Ashes back from their fierce rivals Australia for the first time in 16 years.

On top of the success of the national team, the county and limited over games have also received a boost recently, helped in no small part by the development of the action packed 20/20 game. Another factor is the emergence of floodlit games, meaning that cricket can be enjoyed in the evenings by spectators who have had to work during the day.
