Oli Charpentier and Sam Mercer are among the groundstaff at the All England Tennis Club ahead of Wimbledon later this month. Elsewhere, Elliot Wilson is at St Andrews Golf Club and will be working on The Open. Christy Sullivan is at The Oval, which stages an Ashes Test match between England and Australia later in the summer.

Other students include Aaron Winfield at The Grove Golf Club, Liam Rowlands at Carden Park Golf Club, Phillip Dick at Wentworth and the STRI, Andrew Welsby at Emirates Old Trafford, Ritchie Woodmason at Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, Greg Holden is at Lindrick Golf Club, Jake Schofield is at Gleneagles Golf Club, and  Joe Buckley is at Royal Bahrain Golf Club.

As part of their studies they will play a part in a busy time at all of the venues, with Myerscough students experiencing some of biggest sporting contests in the world close up.

Stewart Brown is a Senior Sportsturf Lecturer at Myerscough College and says: ’’It’s great news that the students have achieved these placements and they will have a fantastic time there experiencing sportsturf management on a world class stage.’’

‘It’s a great opportunity for the students taking part. These are valuable positions within the industry around the UK & Europe and it’s great for the guys to be given such great opportunities.’’

The relationship with major sporting venues and Myerscough College is a strong one. In recent times, no fewer than twelve former Myerscough students have gone on to secure jobs on the groundstaff at the All England Lawn Tennis Club alone, including  current Head Groundsman , Neil Stubley.
