The annual Principal’s Charity Golf Day at Myerscough College has proved to be as popular as ever.

This year’s event was again a huge success as a substantial sum was raised for The Baby Beat Appeal, a charity that aims to maintain and raise standards in preventative care and foetal well-being at the Sharoe Green Maternity Unit at Royal Preston Hospital.

As usual, the day was overseen by Foundation Degree Golf Management students at the College, who ran the whole event and made sure the requirements of the day were covered as part of their Event Management Module for their studies.

A team from UCLan won on the day, defending the title they won last year, ahead of Pinington and Guy’s Thatched Hamlet. Other teams supporting the event were Association of Colleges, Team Coughlan (Ray Murphy), The Design Team, Barclays Corporate and Marcus Worthington.

Principal of Myerscough College, Alison Robinson, said she was delighted that the money was going to such a worthy cause: ‘’All of the teams praised every aspect of the event from the Stumble, to ease of car parking, the cleaning, the catering and the whole organisation. The highlight for the players was of course the golf course, which looked stunning.

‘’Thanks to our event sponsors Barton Grange Garden Centre and the Flower Bowl Entertainment Centre, Thornber and Walker, Wigan Athletic FC, and Evans McDowell Architects, plus Guys Thatched Hamlet and Piningtons Ltd who sponsored some holes.

‘’The event was to raise money for foetal monitoring equipment for babies from conception to birth, bereavement counselling and research into miscarriages and difficulties in conceiving. I am sure you will agree that this is an incredibly worthwhile charity and today we will have managed to raise well over £1,100. Thank you all for your part in such a great day!’’
