Friends of a Myerscough student will once again ensure his legacy will live on by staging a football match in his honour.

Chris Curwen died from lymphoma in September 2010 at the age of the just 23.

Chris, from Preesall, was a former sports student at Myerscough College and the University of Central Lancashire and played for the College teams, the university’s football club and Wyre Villa.

His university teammates set up the Chris Curwen Memorial Cup a few years ago where an ‘Old Boys XI’ take on the current UCLan side to raise money for charity.

This year’s event will take place next weekend, on Saturday May 14, at Myerscough College. All takings from the event will be donated to a charity chosen by Christopher’s mum, Karen, ‘The Christie NHS Foundation Trust’.

Yusuf Kaffo, who organises the match, said: “The day is about coming together and remembering someone who was really close to all of us and has a positive impact and touched us in some way.

“As graduates from both Myerscough College and UCLan collectively, we have taken it upon ourselves each year to organise an event which will not only help raise awareness of the condition, but to also raise money to help others and to also bring graduates and current students together.”
