A party of 36 learners are in Scotland, where they’ll act as support staff for the annual Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews. It’s the 16th year in which Myerscough students have been given this enrichment opportunity, and this year they will carry out scoring duties and media work. This involves tasks including scoreboard operating and carrying, marking GPS positions for TV, and assisting camera operators and scorers.

The championship is one of the biggest events on the European Tour calendar, and is played over four days at three of the most famous golf courses in the world - Carnoustie, Kingsbarns and St Andrews.

The Alfred Dunhill Links is the third international tournament Myerscough College’s golfers have been a part of ‘inside the ropes’, after already enjoying work experience and enrichment placements at last week’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, where among the opportunities was an opportunity for a personalised Q&A session with professional golfer, Adrian Otaegui, about life on the European Tour. Students have also enjoyed time working at the Solheim Cup at Gleneagles.

Students can now look forward to the rest of the year packed with many further activities to complement their study programmes, designed for them to gain valuable work experience in the golf industry while at the same time getting the chance to get up close and personal with some of the sport’s best players. This includes the Turkish Open in November.

Course leader, Rick Daniels said: ‘’For more than twenty years, our management programme has provided a wide view of the golf industry. We try and work at as many key events in the calendar as possible and in the past these have included the Ryder Cup, the Portugal Masters, as well of course as Dunhill and the BMW PGA Championship.

‘’Students leave Myerscough with a sector-leading qualification and transferrable skills that can be used outside of the golf industry, such as marketing, event management, finance and human resources.’’
