Myerscough College’s Foundation Learning football team are celebrating after winning the Lancashire FA Enrichment Football cup, at their first attempt.

Myerscough's winning Foundation Learning football team

The Pan Ability tournament, which was held last week, saw Myerscough field a squad made up of twelve students who represented every level of course that the College runs. Every student played an active part in the six qualifying games, which saw the College win every game one, conceding 4 goals whilst scoring 25.

The final was contested with Preston’s College who had previously won the trophy for the last four years. Myerscough took the lead but this was pegged back to 1-1, before Myerscough took the lead again before conceding an equaliser in the last second. This took the final into a penalty shootout.

The penalty shootout was a very tense affair with both Colleges scoring their first two spot-kicks before Preston had an effort saved, allowing Myerscough to score a winner.

Barry Sherriff, Head of Foundation Learning at Myerscough College, said: ‘’All the students who took part deserve a lot of praise for the way they behaved on and off the pitch and they were all a real credit to both Foundation Learning and Myerscough College.

‘’A brilliant day was had by all and winning the trophy was the icing on the cake.’’
