Intermediate Apprenticeship in Cleaning & Environmental Services - Cleaning

About the course

This programme covers a range of cleaning and environmental service skills and related practices. The objectives of the course are to ensure the development of practical skills, related background knowledge including health and safety issues and procedures.

Venue

Work Based blended delivery programme consisting predominantly of on-site training and assessment within the workplace, supported by off-site technical training at local training and assessment venues as required. Course teaching, learning and assessment is enhanced through the effective use of e portfolio and distance learning resources to ensure flexible delivery is responsive to learner, employer and situational needs.

Programme Length

Work-based delivery over a minimum * of 18 months, dependent on initial assessment.

*Minimum durations apply for 16 – 18 year olds. 19 + learners can apply for accredited prior learning which may reduce the duration. Funding rules dictate a minimum of 12 months duration.

Programme Structure

The Apprenticeship is made up of a number of different nationally recognised qualifications:

Competence Qualification: ·

Level 2 Certificate in Cleaning and Support Services Skills

(Group B - minimum of 2 credits, Group C - minimum of 3 credits, Group D - minimum of 8 credits)

Knowledge Qualification: ·

Level 2 Certificate in Cleaning Principles

Functional Skills: ·

Level 1 English ·

Level 1 Mathematics

Employee Rights and Responsibilities ·

Delivered and assessed through a workbook

Personal Learning and Thinking Skills ·

Assessment and recognition through a Record of Achievement

Course modules

Competence Qualification

Reduce risks to health and safety in the workplace

Communicate effectively in the workplace

Develop yourself in the job role

Group A - Working with others and follow reporting procedures

Group A - Work individually and follow report procedures

Group B - Clean and maintain external surfaces and areas

Group B - Deal with routine waste

Group B - Clean high risk areas

Group B - Perform street cleansing mechanically

Group B - Perform street cleansing manually

Knowledge Qualification

Dealing with routine and non-routine waste

Health and safety for the cleaning and support services industry

Working with customers and others in the cleaning and support services industry

Functional Skills

Level 1 English

Level 1 Mathematics

Employee Rights and Responsibilities

Entry requirements & additional information

Entry requirements

Entry onto the apprenticeship is subject to a thorough initial assessment to clarify course appropriateness. Entrants must have the ability to achieve Level 1 Functional Skills in English and Mathematics and be able to cope with the Level 2 vocational qualification. Apprentices must have a contract of employment working for a minimum for 30 hours/week.

Progression

Apprentices successfully completing the Intermediate Apprenticeship have opportunities to progress within the industry by continuing onto the Advanced Apprenticeship in Facilities Management or other Further Education courses.

Typical jobs apprentices will be able to progress onto on completion of the Intermediate Apprenticeship will depend on the qualifications and experience gained.
