Advanced Apprenticeship in Sustainable Resource Management - Waste Supervisor

About the course

This programme covers a range of resource management skills and related practices. The objectives of the course are to ensure the development of practical skills, related background knowledge including health and safety issues and procedures. It is suitable for those seeking or employed in a more senior supervisory role within the industry.

Venue

Work Based blended delivery programme consisting predominantly of on-site training and assessment within the workplace, supported by off-site technical training at local training and assessment venues as required. Course teaching, learning and assessment is enhanced through the effective use of e portfolio and distance learning resources to ensure flexible delivery is responsive to learner, employer and situational needs.

Programme Length

Work-based delivery over a minimum * of 18 months, dependent on initial assessment.

*Minimum durations apply for 16 – 18 year olds. 19 + learners can apply for accredited prior learning which may reduce the duration. Funding rules dictate a minimum of 12 months duration.

Programme Structure

The Apprenticeship is made up of a number of different nationally recognised qualifications:

Competence Qualification: ·

Level 3 Diploma for Waste Supervisor

(Optional units, Group A - a minimum of 4 credits from at least 2 units, Group B - a minimum of 8 credits from at least 3 units)

Knowledge Based Qualification ·

Level 3 Certificate in Principles of Sustainable Resource Management

(From optional units a minimum of 4 credits required)

Functional Skills: ·

Level 2 English ·

Level 2 Mathematics

Employee Rights and Responsibilities ·

Delivered and assessed through a workbook

Personal Learning and Thinking Skills ·

Assessment and recognition through a Record of Achievement

Contribute to the management of the environmental impact of work

Group B - Conforming to efficient working practices in the workplace

Group B - Maintain vehicle crew compliance with operational requirements

Group B - Plan, allocate and monitor work in own area of responsibility

Supervise the work of others

Supervise health and safety in the working environment for waste management activities

Provide leadership in area of responsibility

Group A - Manual handling, lifting and moving of loads in a waste environment

Group A - Contribute to the sustainability, maintenance and preservation of the environment

Group A - Participate in meetings

Group B - Conforming to general safety in the workplace

Entry requirements & additional information

Entry requirements

Entry onto the apprenticeship is subject to a thorough initial assessment to clarify course appropriateness. Entrants must have the ability to achieve Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Mathematics and be able to cope with the Level 3 vocational qualification. Apprentices must have a contract of employment working for a minimum for 30 hours/week.

Progression

Apprentices successfully completing the Advanced Apprenticeship have opportunities to progress within the industry by continuing onto into Higher Education.

Typical jobs apprentices will be able to progress onto on completion of the Advanced will depend on the qualifications and experience gained.
