This qualification has been developed for individuals seeking a specialised qualification in animal nursing. The qualification is held in high regard in veterinary practices. It develops practical skills in animal care and management, while offering additional opportunities to hone customer service skills in a retail environment. Learners will complete this qualification with a concrete understanding of the following:
How to deliver basic treatments to animals, including cleaning and hygiene procedures, basic health care treatments, and other routine procedures
How to maintain animal accommodation, including providing feed and water to animals
The principles of infection control
Animal anatomy and physiology Optional units include: Exotic Animal Anatomy and Physiology, Plan the Handling and Restraint of Animals, Animal Nutrition, and more.
There are four modules in total:
Each module is made up of five to six topics.
A time scale of 10 weeks is allowed for each module to complete the tasks.
The course is assessed through internal and external moderation.
To pass the qualification, learners are expected to cover all the learning outcomes through an assessment.
The assessments are presented in various methods – assignments, multiple choice questions, short answer questions, case studies, practical tasks and witness statements.
Students will need to structure their own study time and practical assessment within the veterinary practice.
Students will be working in a veterinary practice for a suitable amount of time, ie one day per week to gain experience.
Upon successful completion of the course, if you wish to continue your studies in veterinary practice, you are able to progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing.
