You could be suitable for a Traineeship if you are aged 16-24 years, unemployed (or work less than 16 hours per week), have little work experience and are qualified below Level 3.
Learning and assessment
The Traineeship Programme has mandatory elements which include work placement, work preparation, and functional skills. The College model is usually 2 full days in College plus two days’ work placement. Most students will work within the following model:
9.30-3.00- Level One Functional Skills English and maths. Students who have already achieved Level One may undertake Level Two.
3-4.30- Job coaching looking at progression routes, job/course applications, and personal skills
9.30-3.00 – Level One Employability Skills. This covers a range of general skills such as communication, team working, problem solving etc.

Myerscough will work with appropriate learners to assist them in finding a suitable unpaid work placement. Learners must lead this process. Learners may identify their own placements for College to approve. Please note that College will not support learners in finding a placement for a minimum of 6-8 weeks from their start date unless they agree in principle a placement without College support.
Learners may move into an apprenticeship or full-time post 16 education, or into a job with training.
The Traineeships Programme aims to support learners in moving onto courses and onto careers most suitable for them.
- Work preparation training (Employability Skills) which ensures you are ready and have the confidence to take the first step in your career, such as an Apprenticeship. These units are continually assessed and there are no exams.
- English and maths support to help give you the literacy and numeracy skills needed for the workplace. English and maths qualifications will usually be assessed through a series of final exams.
- A meaningful work experience placement that provides insight and experience of the world of work. Work placements are monitored by College staff and checked through regular review meetings.
The programme aims to support the Government’s ambition to increase the number of Apprenticeship starts to three million by 2020.
The course is fully funded for appropriate learners.
