Traineeships and Moving on Project

About the course

Start Date: September & January (there is some flexibility in terms of start dates)

The Moving on Programme is a flexible education and training programme for young people who are either Not in Education Employment or Training (NEET) or ‘At Risk’ of becoming Not in Education Employment or Training.

Myerscough College offers a NEET Programme to develop the necessary skills for moving into a Traineeship or other education, employment or training opportunity across our range of specialist sectors. Our programmes last anything from six weeks to an academic year with the content tailored to your individual needs.

For more information about the Moving On Programme please email projects@myerscough.ac.uk or call us on 01995 642255

The Moving On Project has a flexible structure but the usual College model is usually 2 full days in College plus up to two days work placement. Most students will work within the following model:

Day One

9.30-3.00- Level One Functional Skills English and maths. Students who have already achieved Level One may undertake Level Two.

3-4.30- Job coaching looking at progression routes, job/course applications and personal skills

Day Two

9.30-3.00 – Level One Employability Skills. This covers a range of general skills such as communication, team working, problem solving etc.

3-4.30 – Job Coaching

Days Three and /Or 4

Myerscough will work with appropriate learners to assist them in finding a suitable unpaid work placement. Learners must lead this process. Learners may identify their own placements for College to approve. Please note that College will not support learners in finding a placement for a minimum of 6-8 weeks from their start date unless they agree in principle a placement without College support.

There is some flexibility to work with students individually to personalise their Moving on Programme if some course elements are inappropriate.

Entry requirements & additional information

Entry requirements

Applicants must be 15 – 18 years or 19 – 24 with an EHCP. All applicants must be unemployed. School aged learners must be experiencing significant disruptions to their key stage 4 education to be eligible. Most school age learners will remain registered with their home school although electively home educated learners will be considered.

Learners who will still be of school age at the start of their programme are also required to complete the Application Form Part B before their application will be processed.

Learning and assessment

English and maths qualifications will usually be assessed through a series of final exams. Employability skills units are continually assessed. There are no employability exams. Work placements are monitored by College staff and checked through regular review meetings.

Progression

Learners may move into a traineeship, apprenticeship or full time post 16 education, or into a job with training.
