NCFE Level 1 Award in Photography

About the course

This new qualification is practical in its nature, exploring both photography and creative projects, capture and digital manipulation. Photography elements will include how to use a camera effectively, and how to exhibit your work using different media techniques. Students will complete the Award qualification in year one and the certificate qualification in year two.

Knowledge Qualification

Year 1

Use a Camera to Capture Creative Images

How to use a digital SLR manually. Includes aperture shutter speeds, ISO, white balance etc., basic composition covered

Digital Image Manipulation

How to use Photoshop’s basic functions to enhance images. Includes levels, curves, cropping, basic workflow, transformation etc.

Entry requirements & additional information

Entry requirements

This course delivers practical skills and covers relevant background knowledge. Students need to be 16 or over, have an interest in the area of photography or creative design and have functional English and Maths skills.

Learning and assessment

The course is assessed in a variety of ways, including written assignments and practical assessment.

Progression

Students who successfully complete the course may wish to complete an additional year at Myerscough or at another college.

Special requirements

Warm outdoor clothing (waterproof jacket and suitable footwear) as some of the photography is undertaken on location.

Tution Fee - £600

Exam/Reg Fee - £60

Students must provide their own DSLR cameras and will be responsible for the cost of materials (approx £50) for portfolio production.
