Advanced Apprenticeship in Sustainable Resource Management - Recycling

About the course

This programme covers a range of recycling skills and related practices. The objectives of the course are to ensure the development of practical skills, related background knowledge including health and safety issues and procedures. It is suitable for those seeking or employed in a more senior or supervisory role within the industry.

Venue

Work Based blended delivery programme consisting predominantly of on-site training and assessment within the workplace, supported by off-site technical training at local training and assessment venues as required. Course teaching, learning and assessment is enhanced through the effective use of e portfolio and distance learning resources to ensure flexible delivery is responsive to learner, employer and situational needs.

Programme Length

Work-based delivery over a minimum * of 18 months, dependent on initial assessment.

*Minimum durations apply for 16 – 18 year olds. 19 + learners can apply for accredited prior learning which may reduce the duration. Funding rules dictate a minimum of 12 months duration.

Programme Structure

The Apprenticeship is made up of a number of different nationally recognised qualifications:

Competence Qualification:

Level 3 Diploma for Sustainable Recycling Activities (Supervisor)

(Optional units: Group A - 2 units required, Group B - 2 units required)

Knowledge Based Qualification ·

Level 3 Certificate in Principles of Sustainable Resource Management

(Optional units - a minimum of 4 credits required)

Functional Skills:

Level 2 English

Level 2 Mathematics

Employee Rights and Responsibilities

Delivered and assessed through a workbook

Personal Learning and Thinking Skills

Assessment and recognition through a Record of Achievement

Course modules

Competence Qualification

Develop personal performance

Promote sustainability and environmental good practice in the recycling industry

Conduct a health and safety risk assessment of the workplace

Set objectives and provide support for team members

Plan, allocate and monitor work of a team

Develop and implement a risk assessment plan in own area of responsibility

Group A - Monitor and maintain the security of recycling facilities

Group A - Control maintenance and other engineering operations for recycling activities

Group A - Monitor and control the efficient resources for the processing or storage or recyclables and other materials

Group A - Contribute to the generation and retention of recycling business

Group A - Plan and maintain transport operations for recycling activities

Group A - Control activities for the processing and storage of recyclables and other materials

Group A - Manage the collection of recyclables and other materials

Group B - Organise the promotion of additional services

Group B - Build and maintain effective customer relations

Group B - Recruit staff in own area of responsibility

Group B - Support learning and development within own area or responsbility

Entry requirements & additional information

Entry requirements

Entry onto the apprenticeship is subject to a thorough initial assessment to clarify course appropriateness. Entrants must have the ability to achieve Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Mathematics and be able to cope with the Level 3 vocational qualification. Apprentices must have a contract of employment working for a minimum for 30 hours/week.

Progression

Apprentices successfully completing the Advanced Apprenticeship have opportunities to progress within the industry by continuing onto into Higher Education.

Careers

Typical jobs apprentices will be able to progress onto on completion of the Advanced will depend on the qualifications and experience gained such as team leader, manager.
