About the course
Brief Description of the Course:
This qualification consists of 8 units, or ‘practical skills’. This course is ideal for those joining a horticultural qualification for the first time or progressing from the City and Guilds Level 1 Award in Practical Horticulture Skills.
Entry Requirements:
Just a keen interest in horticulture and gardening.
Course Units:
Prepare the ground for sowing or planting
Plant container grown subjects
Prepare soil and apply organic mulch
Water a bed, border or area of plants in containers
Determine soil pH with a colour indicator test kit
Prepare and plant a container for display
Sow seeds indoors in containers
Prick out seedlings singly
Learning and Assessment:
Every student builds up a portfolio of evidence, which is a record of the practical assessments that have been completed. Student’s practical skills are assessed through the observation of practical work and assessor questioning confirms their understanding.
