Motorhome /Large Van / Rigid Horsebox Manoeuvring

About the course

About the course

This course is designed for the motorhome driver who needs to gain further legal knowledge and skills of driving a larger than normal vehicle. Ideally for experienced car drivers, this programme covers visual checks on the vehicle as well as driving position, mirror adjustment and rear swing. With no “on road” driving involved, the training is designed to help with those awkward forward and reverse manoeuvres in awkward places!

Specific manoeuvres include:

  • * Forward driving and positioning (normal and tight spaces
  • * Straight line reversing using mirrors
  • * Curved/Corner reverses both sides
  • * Defined space parking

The course layout may be suited to 2 candidates being able to use one vehicle as some of the practical work is carried out in groups.

All the above are carried out in open spaces, utilising the college car parks.

You have to bring your own vehicle (if confidence is low it can be dropped off by someone else), please follow the signs for the International Arena and park up on the large gravel car park area. From there make you way on foot to the Main Reception to meet the tutor.

Additional Information

Candidates must hold a current driving licence for the vehicle they are driving and are expected to bring their own/borrowed vehicle covered by a valid insurance policy.

This is not the training required to take the candidate to the level of the C1 test, although it would offer some very good instruction to the “off road” exercises required within the DVSA test. Training requirements for the C1 are best covered by a specific C1 Training course.
