Introduction: Delivered at Croxteth Campus this course will develop your knowledge & skills on poultry reproduction, breeds and showing as well as administering medication.

To have completed the Introduction to keeping poultry course.

How long is the course?

What will the course involve?

Theory aspects:

- Breeding and incubation

- Identification of Breeds and showing standards

- Administration of medication and basic first aid

Practical aspects:

- Incubation techniques(artificial)

- Preparing birds for showing

- Advanced handling for medical treatments

What equipment will I need?

- Come in clothes you wouldn’t mind getting dirty, all other equipment will be provided

- Candidates will be provided with an apron but should wear closed-toe, rubber soled, non-slip footwear.

How will I know if I am making progress?

- Candidates will gain the satisfactory background knowledge and practical experience to satisfy the needs of poultry incubation, treatments and show preparation.

What course work will I be expected to complete? Some small handouts will be given to all learners to take away.

What can I expect to learn from this course?

You will leave having a formal understanding of the basic requirements of keeping a range of domestic poultry as well as a basic knowledge in poultry health and handling.

This course does not lead to a formal qualification but can be supported by a Myerscough College attendance and completion certificate if required to commence and support further training.
