About the course
This course is aimed at adults who may be considering a career change into the animal industry or are considering applying for a higher education animal care programme of study. It is also relevant to people interested in increasing their knowledge of the care of a wide range of animals.
Our animal wellbeing experience gives you the chance to get stuck in and find out what it is like to complete many practical tasks associated with the care of animals across a wide range of species.. You will be working alongside dedicated technicians across all of our animal sections and get to see first-hand what it is like to work with animals. You will also touch on subjects such as animal welfare, animals as therapy and the impact of animal encounters on positive mental health.
This is only available on certain dates throughout the year and places are subject to availability.
What are the entry requirements?
Interest in working in the animal care industry or general interest in animal care.

What will the course involve?
Prepare and then serve food to different animal species
Help clean out enclosures of different animal species
Health and welfare checks and handling of appropriate animal species
The role of animals in positive mental health and therapy
What equipment will I need?
Candidates should wear closed-toe, rubber soled, non-slip footwear e.g. wellingtons.

What other training programmes and progression opportunities are there?
Other part time courses are available in related subjects including animal husbandry, dog grooming, canine behaviour and animal first aid.
Full time study programmes in small and large animal care and equine studies are also available. An Access to Higher Education course can provide the ideal route for older learners aiming to get back into education and gain higher level qualifications.
