About the course

Introduction:

If you are looking for a career within the animal care industry, then this is the qualification aimed at you.

Working with animals is extremely rewarding, but it can require long hours, with dedication and enthusiasm for the role.

What are the entry requirements?

Interest in working in the animal care industry especially dog walking and doggy day care.

This qualification is suitable if you are 16 years old or over.

How long is the course?

2 Days. Day one will be done online via Teams, Day two will be on campus

What will the course involve?

You will gain the practical skills and knowledge that are important for working as a competent dog walker.

This qualification covers the skills you will need to progress to work as a dog walker. Mandatory content covers:

- Roles and responsibilities of a professional dog walker

- Legislation and codes of practice

- Breeds and behaviours

- Walking and controlling a dog

- Problem, injuries and emergencies

What equipment will I need?

Writing paper and a pen, Suitable non-slip footwear, all other equipment will be provided. It is advisable that you bring your own dog with you. If you are unable to do so we will need to know.

How will I know if I am making progress?

Through feedback and assessment.

What course work will I be expected to complete?

One to one practical assessment with oral questioning

What can I expect to learn from this course?

The requirements of being a professional dog walker.
