Herdsperson - based at Myerscough Farms - based at Preston
Myerscough College Farms are looking for someone passionate about dairy farming to join the team
We are currently milking 170 Holstein cows, averaging 9250L which are milked twice a day through a modern 20/40 swinger parlour with Auto ID
As a Herdsperson you will work closely with the farm team to achieve a high standard of cattle performance and animal welfare. It gives you the opportunity to engage with students and share your knowledge and experiences. Tasks will include milking, parlour hygiene, herd health, calving and drying off. Knowledge of Foot trimming and Artificial Insemination are an advantage but training may be provided.
The successful candidate must be someone who enjoys working both with people and cows, who wants to work within a friendly team in a busy environment and who wants to build on responsibility and take an active part in progressing the herd.
A formal agricultural qualification is preferred although not essential. You will need previous dairy experience and be able to show a level of knowledge and have a passion for farming.
The role requires a Full UK driving licence as the farm is split across 2 units
The role is on average 65 hours per week.
