Monday 25 June 2007

Myerscough College has just launched its new short and part-time course guide for courses running throughout summer and autumn, featuring a number of new and unique courses.

There are courses in a wide range of subjects to suit everyone with an excellent selection of day, evening and weekend courses at a range of venues throughout the North West. So whether you want to develop your current skills, indulge your hobby or you just feel like trying something different, Myerscough offers some fantastic opportunities across all our subject areas. Some courses are purely for pleasure while others lead to a specific qualification, from City and Guilds to degree courses.

New short courses for this season include the Alexander Technique for Horse Riders, Grass Agronomy and Sportsturf Management, Introduction to Arabic Language and Culture, Business German, Conservatory Plants and Drive Your Car with Confidence. A range of new creative design courses are being offered including Patchwork for Beginners, Textile Jewellery, Decorative Garden Ceramics, Creative Recycling with Embroidery and there are several new drawing and art courses held at both Myerscough College and Stanley Park, Blackpool. The popular Wine Appreciation course will now also be running at Hodgson High School, Poulton. There are a number of new courses in the East Lancashire area including Fine Turf and Lawn Maintenance and a Autumn Flower Arranging Workshop at Marsden Hall, Pendle. We offer a huge selection of Computer Studies courses throughout local communities including the new ITQ (IT Skills) qualification, a flexible way to gain an IT qualification building on existing skills, and Buying a Computer, as well as courses in digital cameras, email and internet and spreadsheets and graphs. For businesses, we offer management training through ILM qualifications and provide a variety of industry training short courses from Driver Training and Welding to Food Safety and Hygiene. With such a great choice of courses, there really is something for everyone and feedback from our short courses is very positive.

Paul Crossley, from Halifax, recently came on the Game Shoot Management course. He said:
“The course was extremely informative and well planned. It was a very interesting day, I learnt a lot and it made me realise that there is a lot more involved in game rearing than I originally thought. This is something I am hoping to get into myself in the future, so I feel better prepared after going on the course. I have already recommended it to several of my friends who are also interested in game shoot management.”

Frances Nickson, from Garstang, came on the Holiday French course with her family. She said:
“We chose the course because we wanted to increase our knowledge of the language for when we stay at our home in Northern France. The course was not only interesting but also great fun and helped refresh what I had learnt in GCSE French. The topics covered were really useful as we learnt the phrases we needed for everyday use such as shopping and eating out, as well as helping us to communicate with local people in the renovation of their home in France.”
