Machine Sewing - Beginners Course

About the course

Introduction:

Do you have your own sewing machine but need to get to grips with what it can do? Learn how to carry out basic skills and techniques.

How long is the course?

4 Weeks

What will the course involve?

Week 1 : How to thread the machine and install the bobbin. Make a template for bunting. You will sew seams and attach binding to make the bunting.

Week 2 : Make a template for a cushion. Insert a zip using a zipper foot. Sew a basic shape and learn how to turn a corner.

Week 3 : Produce a template and make a tote bag with a pocket.

Week 4 : Produce a template and make a padded pouch with button fastening for a mobile phone or tablet.

What equipment will I need?

Students will be expected to bring their own electric sewing machine. We do have 3 machines to lend out but these will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. A list of materials will be sent out prior to attending the course.

What course work will I be expected to complete?

Some preparation and completion work will be undertaken at home.
