Floral Competition looks to find UK’s best!
Friday 05 March 2010
Myerscough College will be hosting a WorldSkills UK Floristry Competition heat later this year in association with UK Skills to find the UK’s best floral designer.
The competition is open to young people and adults who are training for a career in the Floral Design industry. Entries for this competition close on 19th March 2010 and entries are done via the website:
www.worldskillsuk.org/competitions/culturalArts/floristry/.
Once you have entered online, you could then be invited to compete in the heat held at Myerscough on the 6th June as part of the College’s Open Day and Country Fair. Highest scoring competitors move on to the WorldSkills UK Floristry UK Final and outstanding competitors may be chosen to go on to represent the UK at the bi-ennial international competition WorldSkills. The next WorldSkills Competition is being held in London, from 5-8 October 2011 and this is the last year that national competitors can enter to be in with a chance of representing the UK on home turf.
The floristry competition provides an opportunity to demonstrate your creative and technical skills in various tasks based upon a theme. Competitors are required to work with a previously unseen selection of flowers, foliage and sundries.
Competitors will be split up into two levels, Intermediate and Advanced, and then challenged to create a variety of floral designs, including wired pieces, bouquets, body adornments, room decorations and a mystery item. These will then be judged by experienced and respected Florists who will decide who goes through to the UK Final later this year.
Anne Molloy, an Instructor in Floral Design at Myerscough College, commented: “Holding this event is a great coupe for Myerscough and we are keen for as many local budding florists as possible to register for the competition as it is sure to be a fantastic event.”
Further information about the competition, including rules and regulations, are available at the website www.worldskillsuk.org.
