A Myerscough College golf graduate has secured a place on the 2010 Omega Dubai Desert Classic after holding his nerves in the qualifying event.

Stephen Deane will join Tom Watson, European number one Lee Westwood and defending champion Rory McIlroy at the $2.5 million European Tour event.

Stephen completed a Foundation Degree in Golf Management at UCLan and then a top-up degree at Myerscough College. During his final year he took part in an event management project at the prestigious Royal County Down golf club in Ireland where he went onto work and train as a golf professional. He is now a qualified golf professional at the Emirates golf club.

UCLan Golf Performance Director, Rick Daniels said: “What a fantastic achievement by Stephen. Whilst studying it was always his ambition to play at the highest level and after gaining his PGA Professional qualification at Royal County Down, he has secured an amazing position at the Emirates Club in Dubai. We wish him well and will all be watching Sky Sports intently for a glimpse of him in action, hopefully seeing him on the Leaderboard.”
