Two days in College
  • Three days on placement 32 weeks/year

Year 2:
One day in College
  • Four days on placement 34 weeks/year

Entry Criteria / Additional Information

The course is designed for school leavers who must have 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, including English Language, Mathematics and a Science. Applicants who have undertaken work experience in a veterinary practice will be viewed favourably.

This qualification leads to professional registration and a licence to practice. It is a requirement of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Regulatory Bye-laws that such qualifications be subject to independent assessment and examination. The qualification will accordingly be assessed using a variety of methods:
  • RCVS external examination of knowledge and understanding
  • RCVS OSCE examination of essential clinical skills
  • Nursing progress log (NPL)
  • Independently assessed assignments

Industrial / Work Experience

This qualification requires candidates to have access to suitable work experience in clinical veterinary practice in year one and paid employment in year two.

Progression

Higher Education Diploma Clinical Veterinary Nursing leading to RCVS Diploma Advanced Nursing leading to BSc (Hons) Clinical Veterinary Nursing.

Special Requirements

1. Equipment and/or Clothing: White coat, uniform and watch with a second hand. 2. Extra Costs: Textbooks - As required. Course Tutors(s) The veterinary nursing course team consists of 15 experienced RVNs, 1 experienced REVN, 2 Veterinary Surgeons and an experienced Laboratory Technician.
