About the Course
The Myerscough Sportsturf and Golf Management programme offers a route to achieving an Honours Degree, for students holding a Sportsturf based Foundation Degree or Higher National Diploma. The qualification is also a "top-up" degree to the Foundation degree in Sportsturf and Golf Course Management offered at Myerscough College. The course provides a management-focused sportsturf and golf course programme and is designed to develop awareness and ability in management, giving students the skills and confidence necessary to manage others in the golf course industry.Five modules are studied, allowing for analysis of management issues underpinning golf course management. These modules include Professional Practice and Consultancy, Event Management in the Golf Industry, International Golf Developments and Sportsturf Specification for Construction and Maintenance. An ethos of career planning and development runs through the curriculum, in order to develop employability and prepare students for a successful career in the UK or overseas. Research Project is also included, enabling students to produce a detailed piece of academic research relating to the sportsturf golf course industry.
The course is designed to enable successful students to analyse key academic themes and
critically evaluate the wide range of management issues within different sectors of the sportsturf and golf course industry.
Entry Criteria / Additional Information
Foundation Degree in a related subject. or Higher National Diploma or 2 years, one at Level 1 and the other at Level 2 of Honours Degree work in a related discipline achieved at 'Pass' standard or above. Applicants will need to demonstrate previous study in research methods at Level 2 to enable them to progress smoothly onto the BSc (Hons) course. Those applicants whose previous programme of study has not covered research skills at the appropriate level may be asked to successfully complete a bridging module, "Research Methods" which could be taken during the summer prior to entry onto the course. Applicants with alternative equivalent qualifications will be considered positively - please enquire at the College. Transferable/Key Skills and AS levels may be used to contribute to the entry requirement, but they are not sufficient for entry on their own. Career experience plus evidence of study skills may also be considered. Consideration will be given to non-traditional qualifications and relevant work experience. Applicants are encouraged to produce evidence of their potential to benefit from the course. Prospective applicants will be given the opportunity to visit the College and may be invited for interview.List of Modules
- Sportsturf Specification for Construction and Maintenance - Evaluation of design options cost and maintenance implications of sportsturf construction and drainage specifications for surface development.
- Professional Practice and Consultancy - This module is designed to enable you to critically analyse developments in sportsturf by integrating the fundamental sciences with the best current practices to ensure that you are equipped to function in a dynamic industry.
- Event Management in the Golf Industry - This module will provide a critical understanding of the management of golf events and further develop appropriate event management skills from planning, organisation and the delivery of a golf event.
- International Golf Developments - This module analyses the range of professional and amateur golf tours and the associate roles in their operation and development. It will also assess the impact and consequences of tourism and golf developments on the globalisation of golf.
- Research Project - To develop the ability to: understand and clearly define a problem to be solved; extract relevant material from a literature survey; design and undertake an original investigation; present, analyse and interpret results; present a coherent, critical account of the work and how it relates to that of others: also to develop management skills; achieve a measure of independence; integrate different aspects of the course.

The course aims to provide a programme of Sportsturf and Golf Course Management education which will enable degree holders to analyse key academic themes in the subject area and critically evaluate the wide range of management issues within different sectors of the golf course industry, which will therefore prepare them for a successful career in the UK or overseas.
